Jayne Ivil
Hastings
Matamata
Race 2 Maiden 3YO 1400m
1 – 8 – 2 – 10
Shambo Jack ran 3rd fresh up in a strong form race at Te Rapa which has already produced four individual winners, he followed that up with another placing at Listed level over 1200m. The drop in grade and step up to 1400m should suit him here. Joyeuse has form that ties in, she was runner-up on debut, posting the quickest last 600m and 400m behind Shirase who was placed 4th the start prior at Te Rapa finishing alongside Shambo Jack.
Race 3 Maiden 1200m
9 – 4 – 8 – 10
Judy’s Smarties lines up in a fresh state here, the Sword of State Colt debuted at Ellerslie in an open 3YO race through the winter months finishing 3rd 2.4 lengths behind She’s No Saint who went on to win the G3 Northland Breeders Stakes. Put aside for a break the colt has trialled up nicely for his return, draws barrier one and gets home track advantage. Pilates is the danger and is likely to start a short-priced favourite. The Savabeel mare was third on debut but has been given time since, trialling twice to prepare.
Hawera
Race 2 Rating 64 1600m
4 – 5 – 2 – 3
Meloni fresh up performance for 4th has been a race, which again, has produced 4 individual winners. He looked the winner second up at Trentham but shied at the 100m mark and pulled himself up. Third up, with the blinkers on give him a strong opportunity to pick up another win. Steadfast was an impressive winner back in July, he was slow away, over raced, covered ground and still won. Given time in between races but has been kept up to the mark at the trials, a win wouldn’t surprise.
Mark Claydon
Matamata
R2, No.1 Shambo Jack
R5, No.12 Scaredoheights
Hawera
R6, No.12 Tajana
R7, No.10 Malachy
